As design students you hear it time and time again, but it definitely bears repeating: Combine a strong concept with thoughtful, uncluttered execution, and you can’t go wrong. That certainly was the case for Miriam Rondeau, who took top honors in this year’s Student Cover Competition in Print Magazine. The brief itself was simple, but with a myriad number of issues to choose from and even more ways to handle them, it can be a very daunting project – pick a global problem and show how design might solve it. Visual hallmarks across the board were clarity, straightforwardness, and a smart use of space.

This approach held the attention of judges, Thomas Porostocky and Matthias Ernstberger of NY design studio Timko & Klick, who selected a short list of winners that was then ranked by readers via the website.
