The Bent Hands | Giha Woo + Shingoeun

Have you ever had to remember how many hours ahead Abu Dhabi is? Right, me too, but with this clock designed by Giha Woo and Shingoeun  you don’t have to remember that it is 8 hours ahead of EDT. The Bent Hands clock tells time with a single spiralling arm to indicate the time in different countries around the world. The clock face features countries written inside concentric circles, with linked points on a spiralling arm indicating the time. The product is part of a series of work by the duo entitled The Wrong Objects, which they presented at DMY Berlin last month.

Pixel Mould | Julian Bond

Design graduate Julian Bond of the Royal College of Art has created a moulding machine to produce vases, each with its own unique design. Called Pixel Mould, the machine produces vessels using a single mould made up of over 1300 individual plaster sticks which can be individually reconfigured to create unique moulds. The vases are created using a traditional slip casting technique, which usually uses fixed moulds, however this machine allows users to create their own one-off designs. This is a rapid manufacturing tool, not rapid prototyping, each piece that is made can be used as a final product.

Quote of the day

I said, “Give us the black sheep. I want artists who are frustrated. I want the ones who have another way of doing things that nobody’s listening to. Give us all the guys who are probably headed out the door.” A lot of them were malcontents because they saw different ways of doing things, but there was little opportunity to try them, since the established way was working very, very well. We gave the black sheep a chance to prove their theories, and we changed the way a number of things are done here.

Skateboard Shreds | Tilles Singer

If you’ve ever thumbed through a skateboarding magazine, you’ve inevitably come across an ad or an article that lays out a trick in a series of photographs. Tilles Singer takes those photographs and recreates the shots by creating short stop motion clips with them. Love the attention to details like the sound effects. It isn’t the urethane wheels that we’re accustomed to hearing, but a creative recreation that mimics the style of the video. He even got a bail in there and a quick lounging shot too. Pretty rad!
